Death of Prof. Dr. Amberg

On 11 December 2020 Prof. Dr. Ernst-Heinz Amberg, for many years a canon and provost of the Chapter, passed away in Leipzig in his 94th year. From 1965 to 1992 he was professor of Systematic Theology at the University of Leipzig. For us theology students at that time he was one of the persons whom we regarded with respect and trust. He held the position of dean of the Theological Faculty in 1968 when the SED planned to demolish the University Church of St Paul. He was the only dean who opposed in the Senate the decision to construct a new university building and thus to demolish the late Gothic University Church. Prof. Amberg worked on an honorary basis from 1983 as canon in Wurzen, and from 1999 to 2005 as provost. Many citizens of Wurzen also have good memories of his preaching, too. The Chapter of Wurzen remembers with great gratitude a former member and provost.
